Microsoft unveiled plans for its cloud storage service, OneDrive, at Microsoft Ignite, which has been held in Chicago since May 4th.
In January, Microsoft unveiled a roadmap for the coming year of OneDrive for consumers and OneDrive for Business for businesses. In this issue of Ignite, we have revealed a more detailed roadmap.
According to the new roadmap, Microsoft will add new mobile PDF features to Android and iOS during the second quarter. There are also plans for features such as "Save to OneDrive for Business" that can be saved from "Outlook Web Access."
In the third quarter, we'll be offering a first preview version of the next-generation sync client for Consumer OneDrive and OneDrive for Business for Windows and Mac. Then, in the fourth quarter, it plans to make the OneDrive sync client publicly available (GA) for Windows and Mac. There will also be a Windows 10 OneDrive universal app that supports both OneDrive and OneDrive for Business for consumers.
The sync client will also include offline read-only mode file viewing capabilities. As Windows watcher Pul Thurrott points out, the offline read-only file feature seems to be positioned as a replacement for the placeholder feature. Microsoft also plans to add support for editing files to offline features in the future.
Microsoft has also published a roadmap for OneDrive developers.
Details can be found in the video released by Microsoft.
